That's the ONLY thing Creative has left that no one else has, and ever since Microsoft buried DirectSound3D/EAX in a shallow grave with Vista/7, you'd think Creative would understand that OpenAL is crucial to their continued existence.

Really? I would think it's hugely in Creative's interest to promote OpenAL since without hardware sound acceleration a Creative card is a waste of money over onboard software audio. It's not in Creative's best interest to promote it.

Still not one of these titles touts Hardware acceleration as a benefit and barely acknowledges that OpenAL is used aside from perhaps Dirt2.Ĭonsidering Creative is essentially in control of OpenAL, it's no wonder it's not more widely used.

The one outlier I found in all the games released last year was Dirt2 which uses OpenAL and includes " Rapture 3D" for audio rendering. Yeah taking a look around at it now it seems there are new titles using OpenAL, but only because thats what UnrealEngine3 uses for audio. I haven't seen one personally since Bioshock 1.
